How selfless the vast majority are when tragedy or just misfortune strikes.

Tony Stewart donated his private plane for Justin Wilson’s family’s use. While Justin Wilson has been successful in Champ/Indy for over 10 years, I don’t think he had “private plane on standby” resources. This is an awesome thing and just got me thinking of all the different ways I’ve seen racers and the car community in general go above and beyond in response to traumatic events like yesterday’s. I hope that all of the help, prayers and positive thoughts can help Justin Wilson and his family in some way.

I think this was even truer in the old days. When they were gambling with their lives, and seeing a competitor burning on the side of the track meant he’d probably die without your help, and was a reminder that it could happen to you any day.

I have seen some videos of racers trying (and sometimes failing) to rescue other drivers from damaged cars. I think there was some in Senna.
